Statue of a Satyr made from Softstone.
Satyrs according to Greek Mythology were inferior mythical beings and demons (spirits of mountains and forests). Poetry and Art were presenting them almost anthropomorphic, bald with pointy ears and goat’s legs and tail. Satyrs were servants and companions of Dionysus. Their favorite occupation was playing the flute and the guitar, harvesting and drinking and flirting girls, reflecting nature’s fertility.
Archaic Greece was the period in Greek history lasting from the eighth century BC to the second Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC, part of the Greco-Persian wars, between the Greek Dark Ages and Classical Greece.
